Fed: Howard says willing to help Liberals and Nelson

Former prime minister JOHN HOWARD says Liberals should think of what their party can
achieve in the future.

Speaking for the first time publicly in Australia since his defeat at the last federal
election .. Mr HOWARD says the party also needs to keep in perspective its important role
in Australia's history.

Mr HOWARD says he's willing to help his party .. and its embattled leader BRENDAN NELSON
.. with the difficult job of being in opposition.

Mr HOWARD says while the Liberals are out of office federally .. and don't hold a state
office .. it's important to remember what the party has contributed to Australia.
