Longstanding Queensland commissioner "Sugar" Ray Robinson has been re-elected deputychair of ATSIC by two votes.

Mr Tatten said Mr Robinson, 55, secured the position on nine votes to seven, afterthe distribution of one round of preferences.

All 17 commissioners cast their vote, but one did not list their preferences.

On a two-person preferred basis, Mr Robinson, deputy chairman since 1996, was electedahead of West Australian commissioner Terry Whitby.

Tasmanian commissioner Rodney Dillon was the only other candidate for the position.
